What gets you to sit down and enter Second Life?
Things to do and commitments? I don't know about you, but I have enough work to do in Second Life (currently including things like creating my long-delayed fireworks sculpting activity for the Diversionarium, building my store in its new location along with Eris, whose store will be on the same land, setting up new members of our League of Friendly Hangouts, not to mention cataloging the new things in my wardrobe, spending as much quality time as possible with Eris, and seeing friends!) to keep me logged in every waking hour if I like. And if I were in-world more (or doing Second Life things outside Second Life), I'd be making sculpties (instead of just maiming spheres, which is as far as I've gotten so far), designing some of the clothing I'd love to make, creating games, hosting at the Diversionarium...
Or boredom? Do you log in to Second Life for something to do? I have to say, since I have a lot of fun almost every time I'm in-world, Second Life calls to me whenever I'm running a little short on fun and have even a little time...although mostly I resist, because I can't afford to spend every day in-world!
Or friends, lovers, or loneliness? Do you go to Second Life to refill your reserves of friendly conversation or dirty sex or wandering conversation or group shopping trips?
Or...something else entirely? Tell me!

I go to SL to shop. I go to SL to build. I go to SL to learn more about architecture (true!). I go to SL to hone my skills in interior design. I go to SL to connect with my friends and lovers, to have kinky wild sex.
I go to SL to shop for all the fashions I can't afford - or wear - irl. I go to SL to make new friends. I go to SL to do social activities.
Lately, I've even been going to SL to write. lol.
Yes, I am there a lot.
And then there's the Div! I love hanging out there and playing fun games. That's the way to meet nice people that I might actually end up putting on my friends list.
This week, I'm going to be jumping on whenever I can to explore the Burning Life area. So many amazing things to be found!!
Friends - I've met many people in sl that mean a great deal to me. I may be meeting one of them in rl in a few weeks. My closest friends in sl are those who I have shared details about my rl with and even exchanged rl photos with. These people really mean a lot to me and have helped me through hard times in both lives.
Grizzy's Cafe - The people that come to Grizzy's Cafe are the best people in sl. They make the place what it is moreso than I do and I am very thankful that they come. I am continuously amazed that my simple little club gathers so many people and such a diversity of people at that. It has really been a rewarding experience.
Meeting people - SL is a chance to meet all types of people that I would never run into in the course of my daily life. People from different backgrounds than I am accustomed to. I have learned a lot of new things and learned that some assumptions I made about groups were wrong. I also have met people I've wanted to punch in the face, but hey, that comes with the territory. I've learned a bit from all of them though. It is the people that ultimately make sl a worthy experience, especially people who welcome others and create places that people want to visit. You, Eris, and the Diversionarium are an excellent example. You should be proud, Kate.
Self exploration - spending time as the opposite gender, socializing in a low pressure "safe" environment, meeting people I wouldn't cross paths with in sl. All of it makes me learn a little about myself as well. I find that spending time in sl makes me philosophical and also generally feel better about myself.
Spirituality - I lead a Bible Study in sl and also attend several during the week. I learn the most from the Bible by discussing it with others and sl is an excellent place to do that.
Exploring - I love to find a big "nature" sim like Bliss Basin and wander around sight seeing. Its like a mini vacation and very relaxing.
So that's why I spend time in sl.
Now, that's not very ladylike!
(Since I guess you never got to get those lectures as a child, I thought I should start catching you up.)
"what" I like to do is explore and socialise - having someone to do it with is very important too.
